Black Roses

While in nature, there is no such thing as an actual black rose, deep dark red roses are often referred to as black roses. A black rose is often used to symbolize black magic or even death, bereavement, loss, and mortality. The meanings of different types of flowers was first established in the Victorian era, and since then most colors of roses have had a certain meaning of symbolism assigned to them. And though a black rose is still beautiful and mysterious, you should probably avoid sending a black rose to a friend or loved one. However, a black rose doesn’t have to symbolize something bad; a black rose can also be used to symbolize the death of a bad habit or the end of an old era.

Caring for a black rose or roses is relatively simple. If you are going to be storing roses before you give them to someone, store them in a cool environment, such as a refrigerator until you are ready to give them or display them. When displaying your black rose or other roses, keep them away from any harsh elements and check the water level each day—this will help your flowers last much longer. Many flower shops will also include a packet of plant food with a flower purchase. Add this packet to the water for your flowers according to the directions on the package. And even though fresh roses won’t last forever, they can last up to a couple of weeks with proper care.
