Buying Roses
The No. 1 most important thing to remember when you are buying roses is freshness. Why? Because if the roses you buy are not fresh or have not been stored properly, they will wilt and droop soon after you get them and their heads will drop. If when you are buying roses the flowers are not fresh, they may never even open or fully bloom at all! So when you are buying roses, look for the flowers that don’t have any brown on the petals or any other discoloring. If you can see the roses in person, make sure they are being properly stored in a refrigerated area as well.
Another important consideration when buying roses is the color. And while red roses are a great choice for conveying a feeling of love and affection, they are also the most common rose. So why not try choosing a variety of different colors of roses to send a unique and exciting bouquet?
After buying roses, make sure to store them in a cool environment until you are ready to display them—your refrigerator is a great place to store your flowers. When you are ready to display your roses, make sure that they have enough water and are not exposed to any harsh elements, such as cold air or a heat vent. You can also add a little plant food to your roses’ water to help them last longer. Typically, roses will be at their peak for only a couple of days after being cut, but with proper care your roses can last up to a couple of weeks—depending on the type of rose.
