Rose
Whether you are the one giving a rose or the one receiving a rose, you will want to know how to help your rose stay fresh for the longest amount of time. So to begin with, if you aren’t going to be giving the rose right away or won’t be able to get it in fresh water immediately, make sure to store it in a cool environment, such as your refrigerator.
Once you are ready to place your rose into water, the water should be at room temperature, not cold. Water that is room temperature will help your rose absorb it more quickly and is one of the most help hints when learning how to keep your rose looking its best. Some florists also include a packet of floral preservative with the rose you purchase.
Before you place the rose in the water, make sure to also remove any leaves that will dip down below the water line. You will also need to cut about an inch off of the base of the rose stem. This is best done with a sharp knife and you should cut the stem under warm water. And while some people will tell you that it is best to cut the stem at a slant, it really doesn’t matter. After this, make sure to display your rose in a cool, dry area and keep it out of the way of heat vents or direct sunlight. Change the water in the vase each day and recut the stems each day as well.
