Rose Care

By taking care of your flowers, you will help stay fresh for the longest amount of time and can enjoy them for days and days. Proper rose care is imperative whether you are the one giving a rose or the one receiving a rose, and proper rose care begins with proper flower storage. If you aren’t going to be giving the flowers right away or won’t be able to get them in fresh water for a while, store your roses in a cool place (your refrigerator is great for this).

For rose care, once you are ready to place your rose into water, the water should not be cold. The water should be as close to room temperature as possible. This is because room-temperature water helps your flowers absorb the water more quickly—a very helpful tip when it comes to learning about rose care. Some florists also include a packet of floral preservative to help with your rose care. Follow the directions on the package to know how much to add to the water.

Remove any excess leaves from the stem or your roses before you put them in the vase of water you have prepared. Leaves that dip down below the water line will rot and distract from the beauty of your flowers. Cut about an inch off of the base of the rose stem with a sharp knife. Cut the stem off under tepid water. And while some people say that it is best to cut the rose stem at an angle, it really doesn’t make a difference which direction you cut it.
