Roses

When you give or receive roses, make sure to store them in a cool environment if you aren’t going to be displaying them for a while. This will help ensure that your roses last of as long as possible and that they won’t droop or sag. Your fridge is a great place to set your roses until they are ready for display or use. When you are ready to place your roses in water, use water that is as close to room temperature as possible. Room-temperature water is more easily absorbed by your flowers and will help ensure that they stay looking their best.

To avoid any rotting, remove excess leaves that could fall below the water line in your vase; leaves that are left submerged in water will turn brown and look unattractive. Before placing your roses in the water you have carefully prepared, cut off about an inch from the bottom of the stem. A sharp knife will make this process simple. And while some people will tell you that it is best to cut your rose stems at an angle, it really doesn’t matter how you cut them and long as you cut them under warm, running water.

To display your roses, choose a cool dry place and avoid any areas with cold drafts or proximity to heat vents. Change the water in the vase each day and recut the stems as needed. For added longevity, you may also want to sprinkle a little bit of plant food in the water as well.
