Single Rose
Whether you are the one giving a single rose or the one receiving a single rose, you will want to know how to help your precious rose stay fresh for the longest amount of time. So to begin with, if you aren’t going to be giving the single rose right away or won’t be able to get it in fresh water immediately, make sure to store it in a cool environment, such as your refrigerator.
Once you are ready to place your single rose into water, the water should be at room temperature, not cold. If the water in your vase is room temperature, you rose will be able to absorb it more easily. If the florist included a packet of floral preservative with your single rose, sprinkle it in the water according to the directions on the package. This will ensure that your rose will last as long as possible.
Before you place your single rose in the water, be sure to also remove leaves could dip down below the line of the water. Leaves that remain submerged with rot, so don’t skip this important step. Cut an inch off of the base of the rose stem with a sharp knife under warm water. It really doesn’t matter at what angle you cut the stem, even though some people will try to tell you that it does. Display your single rose in a cool, dry area and keep it out of the way of heat vents or direct sunlight. Change the water in the vase each day and recut the stems each day as well.
